Soft baked treats infused with chamomile and valerian root to help anxious or stressed dogs settle. Great for thunderstorms, travel, vet visits, or any situation that causes your dog stress.
What You Need
- 1 1/2 cups whole oat flour (or blended rolled oats)
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (plain, not spiced)
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp dried chamomile flowers (or 1 chamomile tea bag, opened)
- 1 tsp dried valerian root powder
- 2 tbsp water (if needed to bring dough together)
Method
- Preheat oven to 160°C (325°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Mix oat flour, chamomile, and valerian root powder together in a bowl.
- Add pumpkin puree, egg, and honey and mix to form a soft dough. Add water a little at a time if the dough is too dry.
- Roll dough out to about 1cm thick on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut into small shapes with a cookie cutter or knife.
- Bake for 22–25 minutes until firm and lightly golden.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before giving to your dog — they firm up as they cool.
- Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 2 months.
Tips & Notes
- Valerian has a very strong smell — your dog will love it even if you don't!
- Give 1–2 treats 30 minutes before a stressful event for best effect.
- Chamomile is gentle and safe; valerian is stronger — start with half the amount for small dogs.
- Always check with your vet if your dog is on any medication before using herbal supplements.
