An earthy, slightly bitter tea brewed from soaked fenugreek seeds — a staple in traditional home remedies for supporting healthy blood sugar levels. Fenugreek is rich in soluble fiber, which slows sugar absorption in the digestive tract.
What You Need
- 1 tablespoon fenugreek seeds
- 1½ cups water
- Optional: a small piece of fresh ginger, sliced
- Optional: a few drops of lemon juice, to cut the bitterness
Method
- Soak the fenugreek seeds in the water overnight (at least 8 hours) in a covered jar or cup.
- The next morning, strain out the seeds, reserving both the liquid and the softened seeds.
- Warm the soaking liquid gently on the stove — do not boil, just heat until warm.
- Pour into a cup, add ginger and lemon if using.
- Optional: chew the softened, strained seeds afterward — they are edible and carry most of the fiber.
- Drink first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, for best results.
Tips & Notes
- The bitterness is strong and intentional — start with half the amount of seeds if it is your first time trying it.
- Soaking overnight is what draws out the soluble fiber and mellows the sharp flavor; do not skip the soak and just boil the dry seeds.
- Fenugreek can interact with blood-thinning and diabetes medications — check with a doctor before using it regularly if you are on prescription medication.
- Store any unused soaked seeds in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
