A warm, comforting tea made by simmering whole cinnamon sticks in water. Cinnamon has been studied for its ability to help slow the breakdown of carbohydrates and improve insulin sensitivity, making this a simple daily ritual for blood sugar support. Naturally sweet on its own — no added sugar needed.
What You Need
- 2 cinnamon sticks (Ceylon cinnamon preferred over cassia for daily use)
- 2 cups water
- Optional: a squeeze of fresh lemon
- Optional: a few fresh mint leaves
Method
- Break the cinnamon sticks in half to expose more surface area.
- Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan, then add the cinnamon sticks.
- Reduce heat and simmer gently, uncovered, for 15–20 minutes — the water should turn a warm amber color and smell strongly of cinnamon.
- Remove from heat and let steep an additional 5 minutes, covered.
- Strain into a mug. Add lemon or mint if using.
- Drink warm, once daily, ideally with a meal.
Tips & Notes
- Ceylon cinnamon ("true cinnamon") is gentler on the liver for daily, long-term use than cassia cinnamon, which contains higher coumarin levels.
- Do not add sugar or honey if the goal is blood sugar support — let the natural sweetness of the cinnamon carry the flavor.
- This is a supportive habit, not a substitute for prescribed diabetes medication — always check with a doctor before relying on it for blood sugar management.
- Leftover cinnamon sticks can be simmered a second time for a lighter batch.
