Four ingredients, five minutes, no gums or additives. Real oat milk — not gummy, not watery — is a revelation. And it costs a fraction of the store-bought version. The trick is the blend time.
What You Need
- 1 cup rolled oats (not instant)
- 3 cups cold filtered water
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup (optional)
Method
- Combine oats, cold water, and salt in a blender.
- Blend for exactly 30–45 seconds. No longer — over-blending makes it slimy as the starch breaks down.
- Pour through a nut milk bag or doubled cheesecloth. Squeeze gently — don't press hard.
- Stir in vanilla and maple syrup if using. Taste and adjust.
- Refrigerate. Shake before each use — it separates naturally, which means no additives.
Tips & Notes
- Cold water is important — it helps keep the starch from making it gummy.
- The leftover oat pulp can be stirred into oatmeal or baked goods.
- Keeps 4–5 days refrigerated.
