Reusable beeswax wraps replace plastic wrap and bags for most food storage needs. The beeswax is naturally antimicrobial. These wraps last a year or more with proper care and can be composted at end of life — zero waste.
What You Need
- Natural fabric (100% cotton — tightly woven like quilting cotton or muslin)
- Grated beeswax or beeswax pellets
- Optional: 1 tsp pine resin (adds stickiness) + 1 tsp jojoba oil per 2 tbsp wax
- Parchment paper
- An old basting brush
- An oven-safe tray
Method
- Cut fabric into desired sizes: small (9x9 in), medium (12x12 in), large (14x14 in).
- Preheat oven to 200°F.
- Place fabric on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle grated beeswax evenly over the entire surface. Less than you think — a thin, even coat.
- Place in the oven for 3–5 minutes until wax melts.
- Use a brush to spread wax evenly to all edges. Work quickly.
- Lift the wrap with tongs and wave in the air for 30 seconds to set.
- Hang or lay flat until completely cool and set (1–2 minutes).
Tips & Notes
- Wash in cool water only — hot water melts the wax.
- The warmth of your hands molds the wrap to any shape.
- Do not use for raw meat — they cannot be hot-washed for sanitization.
