This simple spray cleans surfaces as effectively as commercial products without any synthetic surfactants, artificial fragrance, or hormone-disrupting chemicals. The alcohol disinfects, the castile soap lifts grease, and the essential oils add antimicrobial properties and a clean scent.
What You Need
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup white vinegar
- ¼ cup 70% rubbing alcohol or vodka
- 1 tablespoon liquid castile soap
- 15 drops tea tree essential oil
- 10 drops lavender or eucalyptus essential oil
Method
- Combine all ingredients in a 16 oz spray bottle.
- Add ingredients in this order: water first, then vinegar, then alcohol, then soap (last prevents foaming).
- Cap and gently swirl to combine.
- Shake before each use.
- Use on counters, appliances, bathroom surfaces, and floors.
- Do NOT use on natural stone (vinegar etches marble and granite) or cast iron.
Tips & Notes
- For a scrubbing powder for tough jobs: mix baking soda and a few drops of castile soap.
- Citrus peels steeped in vinegar for 2 weeks create a fragrant infused vinegar for this recipe.
