A homemade alternative to commercial vapor rubs. Peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils in a beeswax base help ease chest and sinus congestion when massaged onto the chest, throat, and back.
What You Need
- ¼ cup olive oil or sweet almond oil
- 2 tbsp beeswax pellets
- 15 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil
- Optional: 5 drops rosemary essential oil
Method
- Combine the oil and beeswax in a double boiler over low heat, stirring until fully melted.
- Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes — the mixture should be warm, not hot, before adding essential oils.
- Stir in the eucalyptus and peppermint (and rosemary, if using) essential oils.
- Pour into small tins or jars and let solidify at room temperature for 1–2 hours before capping.
Tips & Notes
- For external use only — eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils should never be ingested.
- Do not use on or near the face of children under 2 — these oils can trigger dangerous breathing spasms in infants and toddlers. For children over 2, apply a smaller amount to the chest, back, or soles of the feet only.
- Patch test on a small area of skin before full use.
