A soothing after-meal tea that calms bloating, gas, and indigestion. Peppermint relaxes the muscles of the digestive tract while fennel seed helps break down heavy foods and freshens the breath. This is the tea to reach for after a big holiday meal.
What You Need
- 1 part dried peppermint leaf
- 1 part fennel seed, lightly crushed
- ½ part dried lemon balm leaf (optional, for extra calm)
- Honey to taste
Method
- Mix the peppermint, fennel seed, and lemon balm together and store in a labeled glass jar.
- To brew: use 1 rounded teaspoon of the blend per cup of water.
- Pour water just off the boil over the herbs. Cover to trap the volatile oils.
- Steep for 8–10 minutes — fennel seed benefits from a longer steep than leaf alone.
- Strain, sweeten with honey if desired, and sip slowly after meals.
Tips & Notes
- Crushing the fennel seed slightly with the back of a spoon before brewing releases more flavor and medicinal oil.
- Safe for most people, including during pregnancy in normal culinary amounts — check with a care provider for therapeutic doses.
- Also excellent served cold over ice on a hot day.
